wellness at sea training

Sailors’ Society has designed a training programme to reflect the specific needs of seafarers and their employers by promoting cultural awareness, emotional intelligence, social skills and spiritual wellbeing alongside more familiar skills. This can be delivered in class, as online seminars or E-learning, bespoke to meet the requirements of each company.

Who is the Wellness at Sea programme for?

Aimed at maritime companies and training colleges across the globe, the course is available at two levels: an Officer Programme and a Cadet Programme.

Past students have included cadets and officers from Seaspan, SeaTeam, Univan, Wallem and Cape Peninsula University of Technology. To date, the programme has been presented in South Africa, China, the Philippines, India and Ukraine.

We appreciate that time ashore is limited. The course can be delivered as a whole or in selected modules. Delivery of the course ranges from half a day to four days, depending upon the modules selected. We also offer Pre-Departure Orientation Training (PDOS), an hour-long training session on wellness and seafarer mental health for seafarers of all ranks before joining their vessel.

The Wellness at Sea E-learning programme is an online version of the training, offering companies greater flexibility by giving seafarers access to the programme at home, in port or at sea. Some content has been adapted to suit online delivery, but the framework, philosophy and outcomes are the same as the classroom-based coaching. The course takes between 14 and 20 hours to complete.

The course consists of five modules based on the five areas of wellness: social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual. Participants will engage in practical and theoretical exercises and have the opportunity for self-reflection as they are guided through the course. Trainees are awarded a certificate on completion of the course.

Our in-class or online classes are delivered by one of our trainers operating in key regions across the world. All are accredited trainers for Wellness at Sea and have extensive experience of working within the maritime industry.

Pricing is calculated according to an organisation’s individual course requirements. Please enquire about our range of flexible options.

Our recent partnership with Sailor’s Society plays a vital role in addressing the pressing issues and challenges our seafarers face every day.
