Sea Sunday 2022: Calming the storm at home, in port, and at sea.

1 Jun, 2022

Sea Sunday is just over a month away and international maritime charity Sailors’ Society has launched a series of resources to help churches give thanks for the crucial work carried out by seafarers.

Sea Sunday will be officially marked on July 10, but churches can celebrate anytime in the year.

The pack available at https://www.sailors-society.org/sea-sunday-2022 provides resources for use in a Sunday service, including a draft sermon and all-age talk, children’s activities and this year, a mission and outreach service for coastal churches.

All the resources follow the 2022 theme for Sea Sunday: ‘Calming the storm at home, in port, and at sea.’

Sailors’ Society CEO Sara Baade said: “The inspiration is the story of Jesus calming the storm, from Matthew’s Gospel. This reminds us not only of the power of faith but of the unpredictability of life and how storms can beset us all.

“Storms can be global – Ukraine, record tsunamis and the Covid pandemic, or they can be individual - sickness, unemployment, and bereavement.

“As the leading charity for the welfare and wellbeing of seafarers and their families worldwide, we aim to help calm the storms facing seafarers at home, in port, and at sea.

“Incredibly, 90 percent of everything we have comes in via ships and that’s thanks to seafarers. The past couple of years have been so tough. But, as always, it has been an honour to support seafarers through these storms."

Whether churches have two minutes or an entire service to highlight Sea Sunday, Sailors’ Society is delighted to connect with them to bring hope and transformation into the lives of seafarers and their families.
