Posidonia companies rally to support seafarers

15 Jun, 2022

Companies at last week’s Posidonia 2022 have lent their support to maritime charity Sailors’ Society.

Posidonia Events, organisers of the famous expo, nominated the seafarer welfare organisation as a supported charity for this year’s conference with companies including Inchcape Shipping Services, Euronav and Navarino also championing the cause.

For more than 200 years, Sailors’ Society has been giving practical, emotional and spiritual help to seafarers and their families, at home, in port and at sea.

Sara Baade, Sailors' Society's CEO said: "Sailors' Society is honoured to have been a supported charity of Posidonia 2022. We're really grateful to Posidonia Events for advocating our cause in this way and helping us to build awareness of our work caring for seafarers and their families in need.

“It was a fun, insightful and productive week in Athens. We've had some excellent conversations about crew welfare and how companies can collaborate with us to increase their impact in this vital area.

“We loved meeting so many valued partners at Posidonia especially after so long and our thanks goes out to them, particularly Inchcape Shipping Services, for their kind support.”

Inchcape Shipping Services' Nancy Theotokatou and Evaggelia Alexandraki took on the Posidonia 5k in aid of Sailors' Society.

Inchcape Shipping Services lent its weight to the charity by providing stand space, while two of its team, Nancy Theotokatou and Evaggelia Alexandraki, completed the 5k Posidonia Running Event, raising more than £1,600 towards Sailors’ Society’s work.

Sailors’ Society’s chaplains work in 87 ports around the world, reaching 200,000 seafarers every year.

The charity has recently announced the launch of a series of online wellness and mental health conferences for maritime colleges, one of which will be held in Greece.
