23 Oct, 2019

Women's World Day of Prayer has donated £5,000 towards supporting wives and children of seafarers through Sailors’ Society in the Philippines.

The grant will go towards the charity’s Seafarers’ Family Association in Tacloban, which provides workshops, seminars and other activities to help seafarers’ spouses improve their education and life skills.

Sailors' Society's Seafarers’ Family Association in Tacloban helps seafarers’ spouses improve their education and life skills.

Sailors’ Society’s COO Sandra Welch said: “We are very grateful to Women's World Day of Prayer for its support.

“Seafarers can be away from home for up to a year at a time, which can have a huge impact on the families they leave behind. Families can face a high risk of poverty as a result of strained relationships and poor support systems, especially in the Philippines, where seafaring is a major source of employment.

“This grant will go towards giving seafarers’ spouses opportunities to improve their education, financial management and income.”
