Gifts in wills

Leaving your legacy to seafarers.

A gift in your will could provide a future for seafarers and their families for years to come.

We are very proud of our 200-year history, but we will only be able to continue to be there for seafarers and their families in need if we can secure funds for the future.

Gifts in wills are a key source of funding for us and make up around 10 per cent of our income. So your legacy would make a huge difference to the seafarers we support.

Seafarers like those caught up in the ongoing war in Ukraine; those whose homes and communities have been destroyed or who are thousands of miles away at sea not knowing if loved ones are safe.

Our team is on hand to counsel and comfort them through the most desperate and frightening times. We have also assisted seafarers and their families who have fled or lost the roof over their heads to apply for our emergency grants to pay for accommodation, food and medicine.

One seafarer wrote: "War deprived us of everything. I and my family pray not only for us, but also for such people as you who help us all in a difficult moment."

Thanks to people like you, thousands more seafarers will be able to turn to Sailors’ Society when they are in need – whether that’s in a crisis or to talk through their worries or get wellness support for them or a colleague.

We know you’ll have a lot to consider when choosing where to leave your legacy. But if the time is ever right for you to remember a charity in your will, please remember Sailors’ Society.

Your generosity will help change the future for our key workers of the sea.

"Seafarers, and their families, are generally aware of the work done, quietly in the background, to aid and support them. Rarely do they envisage that it may be needed in such dramatic circumstances. My son, a promising young officer on a container ship, was sadly killed in an accident while supervising cargo loading in Malaysia during the small morning hours. An officer of Sailors' Society had the difficult task of bringing this awful news to us. This same officer continued supporting us in the coming weeks while the Society liaised with the shipping line to bring our son's body home. We subsequently found much solace in supporting the work of the Society and, when my wife died, she left a bequest to them in memory of our dear son. I have done so in my own Will. My own experience demonstrates the compassion which is so freely given to seafarers and their families and I will warmly support Sailors' Society while I can."
