Society appoints new head of fundraising

18 Jan, 2017

Sailors’ Society has appointed a head of fundraising as part of a new approach to growing the charity’s resources.

Kate Sandys joins the charity from Unicef UK. Her appointment comes as part of Sailors’ Society’s plan to build on its foundation of support from the maritime industry by diversifying its funding streams, which will enable it to further develop its work supporting seafarers and their families around the world.

Kate said: “I’m really looking forward to leading the fundraising team at Sailors’ Society. There are many great opportunities to bring the Society’s work to new audiences and diversify and grow our income. I am also looking forward to building relationships with our existing generous supporters. It is a particularly exciting time to join the organisation as we approach our 200th anniversary in 2018.”

The Society has 118 chaplains and ship visitors in 91 key ports across 22 countries.

In the past three years, the charity has undertaken a number of projects, including helping to rebuild seafaring communities the Philippines devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. The charity has also launched a variety of apps to improve seafarer welfare and last year began producing its own BySea coffee, the profits of which go directly to Sailors’ Society’s work.
