Clipper Regatta raises £12,500

21 Jun, 2017

Five teams from across the maritime industry raced each other in Sailors’ Society’s Clipper Regatta on the Solent on June 15, to raise money for maritime charity’s global work with seafarers.

Having been put through their paces with a few hours’ practice, teams of 12 raced in perfect sailing conditions.

This is the fifth year the regatta has been held, with Cargill attempting to defend their title.

After three races, World Fuel Services came triumphed over ATPI and Inmarsat who came second and third respectively.

Ferry Van Hove from Cargill, said: “We really had a blast, I’d never been on a sailing boat before and this workshop and race were the perfect opportunity to test the waters.”

During the dinner and awards ceremony, which were held at Portsmouth’s Loch Fyne restaurant, Sailors’ Society’s head of fundraising Kate Sandys thanked the competitors for their efforts.

The £12,500 raised on the day will go to charity’s work supporting seafaring communities around the world.
