We were honoured to be the supported charity at the Lloyd’s List Global Awards event held on Wednesday 28 September. Dressed up in our finest, Melanie Warman, Sailors’ Society’s Director of Media and Advocacy, and I had the opportunity to network with some of our many supporters across the industry as well as to meet new contacts, in the very appropriate setting of the Greenwich Maritime Museum.

Fiona Bruce hosted the event and encouraged the 450-plus guests to make a donation to Sailors’ Society. Throughout the dinner a short film about us played, highlighting some of the great work we do, followed by details of how to make a donation. We were also really delighted to be able to pick up the award on behalf of the Seafarer of the Year - Master Bonifacio J Gellangarin. In her acceptance speech, Melanie thanked all the seafarers who are the lifeblood of our industry, often living through physically and emotionally challenging times, to make all our livelihoods possible.

All in all, it was a great evening of awareness raising and recognition for Sailors’ Society.
