Sailors' Society is really grateful to everyone who takes part in an event and raises much needed funds for our global work. RightShip's Mathieu Antin describes why he wanted to get involved and support the Society.
I’ve been living in the UK for a bit less than two years, and on 24 April I’ll be running the London Marathon, which is by far my longest run to date.
Thanks to the great parks we have in London, I’ve started running to work with an Australian friend and colleague.
Before joining RightShip in 2015, I was a former Captain and Marine Superintendent, travelling around the world for many years. Because of this, I’ve been able to witness the good that Sailors’ Society does in the ports and cities I was visiting.
When RightShip offered the opportunity to run for Sailors’ Society, despite my grey hairs growing, I felt like I was young and fit enough to accept the challenge. And with RightShip committed to match my fundraising efforts, I couldn’t pass it up!
I would never have expected the training could be so hard - especially during the winter period with early morning and late evening runs in the dark, cold and wet weather of London. Fortunately, spring has arrived and I hope the reward of completing this race will be worth all my training efforts!
My RightShip colleagues have decided to position themselves along the London Marathon route to shout their support and encouragement. RightShip is a great team, and I feel like their support will keep me going.
I’d like to send a big thank you to every single person or company who donates to support this fantastic cause.
