Prayer cycle for everyday worship

January

We pray for all seafarers at the start of the New Year, that they may look forward to a satisfying job ahead and in our prayers we remember their loved ones left behind.

February

We pray for marine safety, that the International Maritime Organisations and all the Marine Safety inspectors may be blessed in their efforts to ensure that ships are safe and crews are well trained.

March

We pray for the families of seafarers who are facing the adventures and perils of life alone.

April

We pray for shipping companies and ship managers, that they may conduct business that is profitable and offer employment that is fair to the seafarers.

May

We give thanks for the naval and merchant naval personnel who in the wars kept the sea-lanes open, shipped food and vital supplies; and we pray for the ships and personnel who defend our coasts and those vessels that sail upon our waters, and when disaster strikes we pray that those who engage in search and rescue operations will be successful.

June

We pray for Port Authorities that they may be blessed in managing the harbours of the world.

July

We particularly pray on Sea Sunday for all Seafarers, and for the Christian Societies that reach out to assist seafarers and the International Christian Maritime Association, the North American Maritime Ministry Association and the other bodies who bring the missions together.

August

We pray for unions that assist the seafarers, the International Labour Organisation, the Seafarers International Union and the International Transport Workers Federation that they may bring about justice and continue to seek the fair treatment of seafarers.

September

We pray for Shipping Agents that they may have a constant spirit of service in their dealings with ship’s crews.

October

We pray for stevedores, crane drivers and port workers that they may load and discharge ships safely.

November

We pray for harmony among the variety of nationalities and cultures onboard ship.

December

We pray for the ministry and mission that we are privileged to perform and we give thanks for the birth of Jesus Christ.
