We all yearn for friendship, to find comfort and answers to our problems, to be reassured that we are sane and our emotions normal, to realise that we are not alone, that others have come through similar difficult times and to have someone impartial to confide in.
That’s what the Sailors’ Society is able to bring to the maritime community. Our Chaplains in the ports are able to offer support to the merchant seafarers whom they meet.
When a seafarer has lost a loved one and doesn’t know who to turn to on the ship for advice and aid, our Chaplain can be there, offering comfort, compassion and understanding. Often able to make arrangements for the bereaved to return home. Offering counselling and support to any culture or faith. Being non-judgemental and impartial. Befriending the stranger whom they may never see again.
Meeting seafarers’ needs. That’s what we do, that’s our Chaplains’ calling.
