Funding nautical education courses for serving or aspiring seafarers
The Society has a limited amount of funds set aside to assist students with their nautical education when an individual is finding it difficult to raise the necessary course fees by themselves.
When an individual applicant meets the following criteria, the Society may be able to award a bursary to assist study in cases where the applicant is unable to meet the course fees and can demonstrate that they have no other source of funds to pursue their nautical education.
To be eligible, you must either;
-
Be a student or nautical cadet preparing for a career at sea in the merchant navy (of any country) and enrolled at a recognised college or academy of nautical education.
-
Already have entered the profession and have been accepted on a course of study by an accredited institution to further your qualifications.
Applications for financial assistance by way of a study grant are welcomed from individuals irrespective of nationality, country of origin or religion (or none), or where the study is proposed to take place.
If successful, the grant to defray either the whole or a part of the course study fees, related books and necessary course material to complete the course will be paid by the Society directly to the establishment offering the course. It will not be paid direct to the student. Your application must be fully supported by the respective Course Tutor.
Beneficiaries who do not complete the full course of study may be required to repay all or any part of the grant.
If you are interested in applying to be considered for a study grant, you must complete and submit an Application Form.
