Because nobody should be isolated and forgotten, whether ashore or at sea, we strive to nurture the human spirit of all seafarers whilst they are away from home and loved ones. We are called upon to reach out to the stranger in need. That’s what we do!
Seafarers spend most of their time in International waters, many thousands of miles from home. They invariably don't have anybody onboard ship with whom they can share their anxiety or vent their frustrations for fear of ridicule. It’s a terribly isolated existence.
Importantly, seafarers are human beings – children of God. We are called to reach out to them as an expression of our humanity and our faith. The voice of the sea speaks to the soul. At sea, like Jonah in the Old Testament, it is difficult to not to feel something about God. We shall use these pages to develop friendship and fellowship with seafarers, so that they may view material to support them in their worship at sea and help relieve their loneliness onboard ship whilst away.
What Seafarers say to Us:
- "Though I am far from my family home, when I can talk to you about my problems it is like I am talking to my own mother. Thank you for your prayers whilst I am away."
A Seafarer from India
- "It was so good to talk with you about these matters of faith. It is not easy to find people to whom you can talk freely about difficulties in being with Christ when you are a seaman. On the ships it is hard to live a Christian life."
The words of a Filipino seaman
- "We wish to thank you all for your great help. You really are very friendly and full of smiles. You made us feel great. We hardly get to travel off the ship, so when you come to talk onboard with us with so much love and concern it is incredible. Just talking and moving around with all of you makes a big difference to us, we feel a lot happier and better. The friendship we developed in short time seems to last a lifetime on our hearts. You reach out a lot, giving yourselves totally in dedication and hope. May God bless you all abundantly”.
