Why? Because every penny you give will help us realise our vision – replacing the isolation of merchant seafarers with a sense of belonging.
We need your gift to sustain our work. We are dependent upon charitable donations and without them we would not function.
Of course one of the greatest reasons to donate to any charity is to help the less fortunate. If you have been blessed, making a decision to donate to our charity can help you give a little back.
Have you been given help in time of need? Have you had times in your life when you needed a little help? Now that you may be back on your feet, why not make the Sailors’ Society the beneficiary of your decision to donate to charity?
It‘s never a bad idea to return a good turn and if your decision to donate to our Society helps a seafarer who helped you, a seafarer who you have unconsciously and unknowingly relied on to ship your food or goods, it just makes it that much more appropriate.
The needs of seafarers are no less than they were in 1818, when the charity was established. Our worldwide network of Port Chaplains, ship visitors and centres, together with our sister organisations, provides a vital ministry in more than 100 ports in 30 different countries.
It’s a chance for you to invest in the welfare of merchant seafarers – the core resource of the shipping industry – by helping us provide service and support to them in busy ports and isolated oil terminals, in the few precious hours they have off duty.
The Sailors' Society meets seafarer’s needs where others do not. Your generous support will benefit everyone concerned with having a contented crew aboard ship. The money will be spent where the need is greatest.
The money raised will fund, resource and sustain these typical projects:
- New Port Chaplains to conduct ship visits and minister to seafarers both onboard and ashore at seafarers’ Centres.
- New and replacement minibuses for safe transfer of crew from ship to centre and the bus running costs.
- New, easily accessible, modular Welfare Centres (a hybrid container placed within the port limits where possible), which are safe and secure environments for seafarers to relax in.
- Broadband Internet access and telephones.
- Recreational facilities and equipment.
