Tax Efficient Giving

Make use of Gift Aid if you pay UK tax

If you are a UK taxpayer you can increase the value of your donation to us by using the Gift Aid scheme and boost our income. It works at no extra cost to you. It makes a huge difference to us!

Making sure you’ve paid enough tax to use Gift Aid

It is a stipulation by the UK Revenue and Customs (HMRC) that you can use the benefit of the Gift Aid scheme provided that the amount of UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax that you have paid in the tax year (being from 6 April one year to 5 April the next year) in which you make your donation is at least equal to the amount of basic rate tax* we will reclaim on your gift.

Please note though that only UK tax counts, so if you only pay tax outside the UK you won’t be able to use Gift Aid to boost your donation to us.

How to check if you’ve paid enough tax to qualify for Gift Aid

To work out if you’ve paid enough tax to cover your donations, divide the value of your donation by four.

For example, if you want to give us £100 in a particular tax year you will need to have paid £25 tax over that qualifying period. (£100/4 = £25).

*(Please note that this information is based on a basic rate tax of 20 per cent being applied)
