Our Big Appeal for the ‘Year of the Seafarer’ in 2010
Help us pay tribute to merchant seafarers the world over for their unique contribution to society and the vital part they play in global trade.
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has designated the year 2010 as the ‘Year of the Seafarer’.
In recognition of the unique contribution that merchant seafarers make to society and of the risks they undertake daily, we ask you to donate just £1 for at least one merchant seafarer among the huge number that we reach out to on the merchant ships that we visit annually. That’s about 375,000 merchant seafarers this year, all sailing from many different nations!
Our formidable target is to raise £375,000 by World Maritime Day, 23 September 2010.
We are aiming aim to make 375,000 seafarers smile and know that you care!
Please donate to us today for us to deliver tomorrow’s care.
World Maritime Day
Every year the International Maritime Organisation celebrates World Maritime Day and the Governments of individual countries around the world mark the occasion by designating one special day for this event, usually toward the end of September each year.
This day is used to focus world attention on the importance of merchant seafarers to our lives, shipping safety, maritime security, and the marine environment and to emphasize a particular aspect of IMO's work.
