Other Ways To Volunteer

There are several other ways to volunteer to help us, all of which are a significant benefit to our charity.

Be a Collector

We rely heavily on gaining our core donations by organising House-to-House collections in the community.

We are always on the lookout for good people who can generously give a little time to undertake a street collection for us at specific times of the year. If this might be a way that you think you could help us, then please contact us.

Be a Driver

We need volunteers who are qualified drivers to assist with the running of our Mini-bus services based at our Port Seafarers’ Centres. We use the Mini-bus to collect and return seafarers from and to their ships in the port. Typically, most of the requirement for this work is in the evening, when a seafarer is more likely to have some free time to go ashore.

If you live near a Port where we operate these services, and would be willing to be included in a rota for Drivers, then please contact us for more details of how to become involved.

Work in our Charity Shops

We operate Charity Shops in Aberdeen, Hull  and Farnborough and always welcome volunteers to help in a variety of jobs here. If this type of voluntary work appeals to you and you can spare some time, then please contact us.

Welcome the Stranger to the Shore

If you might be interested in becoming a volunteer Ship Visitor with us then we would be very interested in talking to you.

This special job entails visiting ships at the ports where we operate. You will accompany another Ship Visitor to board the vessels and meet with crewmembers to see what welfare assistance they might need from us. Volunteer ship visitors meet seafarers, approaching them as friends, listening to their concerns and where possible offering practical help; for example providing news from seafarers’ home country, local information and arranging for worship if required. The role is very responsible. You will have to be trained beforehand and not everyone is suited to the work. Nevertheless, if you believe that you have what it takes then please contact us to learn if it’s possible to help us freely in this way.

For any of these opportunities, please email us, explaining how you’d be able to help us and we’ll be in touch.

Thank you…Thank you…Thank you

We are extremely grateful for any voluntary assistance, and we will always be pleased to know of any help you might offer, for however much time you can spare to freely give to us.
