Volunteers of any working age

We are pleased to hear from anyone age 18 years upward, who may be able to offer their time to help us voluntarily

We have a number of ways that you might help in our work. But before contacting us it’s a good idea to think about what you would like to do in terms of the type of activity and how you would like to get involved with us. Check out the rest of our website for ideas and inspiration. At the same time consider how much time you are able to give to us.

What do volunteers do?

Almost anything that we need doing and that you want to do. You can help us do what we do in quite a number of ways described in our pages.

Do I need qualifications?

Usually you don’t. Some of our more skilled work may require that you have the experience, but we will offer the necessary training to enable you to do the work you agree to undertake.

Can I get a qualification?

We don’t set out to offer training to our volunteers to gain qualifications – such as an NVQ, but you may well learn a lot with us and gain valuable experience, skills and a reference.

Will I be paid something to cover my expenses?

We work extremely hard to raise enough money to sustain our free, charitable services to merchant seafarers, so we will only cover the abnormal travel and other necessary expenses if you volunteer to do some exceptional activity when we may seek special voluntary help.

It is after all a voluntary arrangement between us and we consider that you would be happy to freely give your time to help us do what we do. We do not reimburse the cost of travelling to the volunteering activity or cost of any meals while volunteering because we want to maximise our spend of charitable funds for the benefit of the seafarers we assist.

Can I leave if I don’t like it?

Yes, of course. There is absolutely no obligation to keep volunteering for us if you find it unworkable because of your changed circumstances or if you are not happy with what you’re doing. Having said that however it is always worth talking to somebody about your situation first. This could be our volunteer co-ordinator or your designated supervisor.
