Dragon Boat Challenge 2009
Dorney Lake, Saturday 27th June
2009
The
Sailors’ Society’s second Dragon Boat Challenge will be taking place
at Dorney Lake on Saturday 27th
June 2009.
The Challenge
begins at 10:30 for team briefing. This is a fantastic day
out for team building with staff, for entertaining your clients or
to just bring the family and friends along for an enjoyable day
together.
The exciting Dragon Boat racing is
informal and great fun, but is often fiercely competitive between
teams. You will race on the same rowing lake to be used for the 2012
Olympics.
In 2007, twenty seven teams contested the
trophy, and the event is now a highlight on the shipping industry
calendar.
Additional activities will be held throughout the day to suit all
ages and abilities.
These
will include:
-
Tug of War competition
-
Human table-football
-
Clay shooting
-
Target golf
-
Bouncy castle
-
Children’s entertainer
-
Face painter
-
Children’s Bell Boat racing
How it
works
Each Dragon
Boat team is made up of 10 rowers and one pace drummer.
The competition will be held in heats and
trophies will be awarded to both the winning team and highest
fundraiser.
What you
get
All participants will receive coffee and
bacon on arrival and a BBQ lunch is included, with an additional 11
guest food passes allocated per team.
“Thank you for a great day. All our team enjoyed it very much!”
Ms. Marie-Claire Coombes, Rio Tinto.
Fundraising
We suggest
that each team aims to raise at least £3,000
sponsorship (that’s just £300 per
person). This will meet costs of organising the event and any
additional monies raised will enable the Society to continue its
vital work with seafarers worldwide.
We highly
recommend that you set up a
‘JustGiving’
page for your team sponsorship.
This enables you to direct your
supporters straight to your own team page. From here they can donate
to your sponsorship target, and the money will come directly to the
Society, making it easier for you to manage.

Sponsorship opportunities
There is the opportunity to
become a main sponsor of this event, following on from Cargill and
BP in 2007. There are also other key sponsorship opportunities
available, for example sponsoring a Dragon boat.
“The sponsorship was great branding for Cargill,
and we felt proud to contribute to the success of the event and make
a real difference to the work of the Charity.”
Captain Jonathan R Stoneley, Environment &
Compliance Manager,
Cargill Ocean
Transportation – Sponsor and participant 2007
Challenge.
