Our Society provides a personal lifeline for merchant seafarers when onboard their ship and when they step ashore
We aim to bridge that gap and make them feel welcome and valued.
The men and women who make up the maritime industry make huge sacrifices to provide the peoples of the world with the modern way of life to which we have become accustomed. Mostly spending several months on end aboard a ship, far removed from their family and friends, seafarers face a hostile environment, danger and challenges unique to their round-the-clock profession.
Our Society Chaplains routinely go aboard ships to meet seafarers where they work. As part of our constant ministry, we maintain a staff of professional Christian Chaplains with a backgound of working with other faiths and across many cultures. Our Chaplains and volunteers assist thousands of seafarers each year, offering the hand of friendship and pastoral care. They also bring with them practical services like SIM cards to connect with loved ones at home and newsprint in their own language.
