Eyewitness accounts

I told people about the Sailors’ Society, everyone I know. They say to me that it is hard to believe that there are such good people living among us who will help. Your work reminds me that religion, race or skin-colour does not matter for good will.
A Seafarer from Sri Lanka

A seafarer was anxious about the health of his daughter. I gave him a phone card and within minutes he was talking to his wife and his daughter.  The smile on his face touched my heart, especially as I drove home to my wife and children that evening.

A Filipino Officer asked me if it was possible to go to church and light a candle for the well-being of his wife and unborn child.

I just wanted to say on behalf of the crew, thank you so very much to all who make things a little easier and brighter for those of us who work offshore.
An Indonesian Seafarer

I visited a 26 year old Filipino seaman, who was hospitalised because of tuberculosis. He was very surprised and happy when he understood that I was there to help him.
Our Chaplain in Rio De Janeiro

I visited a ship and found out that the wife of one of the seafarers had died the day before.  He was very sad of course, and we talked and he shared his feelings with me.
