Our contribution to Education

Our Society supports a number of education projects and learning initiatives.

Some programmes assist students aspiring to take up a maritime profession through accredited Nautical Colleges where they follow degree or equivalent courses. Through others we provide funds to directly assist the education of children of seafarers who are unable to pay for their children’s schooling for a variety of reasons, such as sickness preventing them earning, redundancy, etc.

The Society has recently maintained a funding programme for the education of the children of seafarers suffering financial hardship in Indonesia. Our charity also funds a programme to assist a group of disadvantaged seafarers in Tema, Ghana. Some had a lapsed qualification and although trained to serve at sea, they need funding to support their attendance at a further maritime course to revalidate their certificate of competence and enable them to re-enter the seafaring job market.

We also award grants toward course fees and purchase of books and necessary equipment.

If you think that you need financial assistance to fund your Nautical training and believe that you might qualify for our Nautical Education Grant, then you should apply to the Society by email in the first instance. Naturally, there are strict criteria applied to approval and these will be explained to you upon application.
