Our Structure, Governance and Management
Our Board of Trustees provides us with a breadth of experience and expertise. All 16 trustees voluntarily contribute their time to help set and oversee the strategic direction of the Sailors’ Society. They come from a variety of professional backgrounds, some with long experience of seafaring and many with a diverse range of skills including directors of business and banking, legal and accountancy knowledge and ministry and chaplaincy practice.
The Board is also trustee of the vision, purpose and values of the Society, supplying a mandate to work for provision of welfare support to seafarers and to steadfastly uphold the objects of the charity.
The Trustees regularly review and comment on plans and performance, review any major issues bearing on the wellbeing of the organisation and its endeavours, and decide important new strategic directions.
It is the Trustees’ responsibility to formally approve our budget, annual report and accounts and report to the Charity Commission on annual achievements of their charity and delivery of public benefit to the community we set out to serve.
